How many days are enough for Udaipur?

Two days cover the sights most visitors come for, at a pace that leaves time to sit down. One day is enough to see the old city properly but not the lakes to the north. Three days suit you if you want a long day out of town.

That is a planning judgement from how the clock works, not a survey. The old city’s sights sit within a few minutes of each other, so one day is not wasted. The rest of the city is spread north and west, which is what fills a second day.

DaysWhat fitsWhat you leave out
1City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Gangaur Ghat, the 7:00 pm showFateh Sagar Lake, Shilpgram, Sajjangarh, any day trip
2All of day 1, plus Saheliyon Ki Bari, Fateh Sagar Lake, Moti Magri, Shilpgram, SajjangarhA day trip
3Both city days, plus Kumbhalgarh and RanakpurChittorgarh, Mount Abu (too far for one day)
What each length of stay gets you.

Each plan below is a table: time, stop, and the drive from the last stop. The drive is measured by road between the points named in the distances guide, and car times are cautious. Opening hours are as listed by the sources at the foot of the page. Hours move, so confirm any you are building the day around.

One day in Udaipur: the old city

The day is built around two fixed points. The City Palace is the long visit, and the folk show at Bagore Ki Haveli is the evening anchor. Trawell reports that Jagdish Temple closes from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, so it goes before 2:00 pm.

City Palace Museum lists 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The group’s Crystal Gallery page lists 9:00 am to 6:30 pm for the Crystal Gallery, which is a separate ticket. The West Zone Cultural Centre poster lists the show daily from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with tickets from 5:30 pm. That poster is dated April 2023, so ask at the haveli before you plan around it.

If the palace is the only thing you want

Because the palace stays open until 9:00 pm as listed, you can swap the order: waterfront and temple in the morning, palace after lunch, then the show. You lose the cooler morning hours, and the palace is the part most people want unhurried.

Two days: add the lakes and the hill

Day 2 moves north and west, away from the old city. It is more driving than day 1, so the stops are fewer and longer. Do day 1 as above, then follow this.

TimeStopDrive from the last stop

11:00 amFateh Sagar Lake: a walk on the PalAbout 1.5 km, 5 min

Travel Coffee and Maps of India report Saheliyon Ki Bari hours that conflict, with most travel sites giving 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and one giving 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, so these are not an official listing. Trawell reports Shilpgram at 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, and the West Zone Cultural Centre publishes prices but no hours that we could read. For Sajjangarh no reliable hours were found for the palace or any bus from the gate. Ask at the gate before you commit the last hour of the day to it.

A lake boat at sunset can replace Sajjangarh if you would rather finish at the water. The City Palace group publishes a Jagmandir boat tariff whose printed validity ended on 31 March 2026, and no newer table is online, so ask at the jetty for the current fare. The Lake Pichola guide covers the other boats.

Three days: add a day out of town

A third day is a long drive. Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur make a full day, and you spend more of it in the car than at the sights. If that does not appeal, the shorter trips in the day-trips guide take half a day.

TimeStopDrive from the last stop

No opening hours or fees are given here for the fort or the temple. No official fee page for Kumbhalgarh could be opened, and travel sites disagree. Check both at the gate and plan to be back on the road by mid-afternoon.

A shorter option is Eklingji and Nagda in the morning, then Nathdwara. See the Nathdwara guide for that trip. From the City Palace, Kumbhalgarh is about 97 km and 2 hr 30 min.

What to drop when you are short of time

Cut from the bottom of this list first. The order follows how much each stop adds against the time it takes.

  1. Moti Magri, which is a short stop above Fateh Sagar Lake.
  2. Shilpgram, which is across town from the rest and reported to open at 11:00 am.
  3. Sajjangarh.
  4. Saheliyon Ki Bari, if Fateh Sagar Lake is on the plan anyway.
  5. Jagdish Temple, if its reported afternoon closure catches you.
  6. Gangaur Ghat, but keep the 7:00 pm show if the evening is free.

Do not drop the City Palace to save time. It is the longest single visit and the one with fixed hours on both ends.

Sleeping in the old city or in Sukher

The hotel is in Sukher, so every stop starts with a drive. It is about 9.2 km and 25 min by road from the City Palace gate, and about 9.4 km and 25 min from Bagore Ki Haveli. Day 1 therefore starts with a drive and ends with one after the show.

If you sleep in the old city, day 1 becomes a walk, and you can go back to your room between the palace and the evening. Days 2 and 3 are drives from either base.

If you sleep in Sukher, the two-day plan costs you the least on day 2: Saheliyon Ki Bari is the closest stop to the hotel. Put the old-city day second if you would rather not drive at the end of a long first day. Arrival and onward routes are in the how to reach guide.

If you can book the evening show, the late finish is the one thing the Sukher stay changes. Allow the drive home in the dark and ask at reception whether they can arrange transport for it.

Questions & answers

How many days are enough for Udaipur?

Two days are enough for the main sights: the old city on day 1, then Saheliyon Ki Bari, Fateh Sagar Lake, Shilpgram and Sajjangarh on day 2. Add a third day only for a day trip such as Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur.

Is one day enough in Udaipur?

Yes, for the old city. You can see the City Palace, Jagdish Temple and Gangaur Ghat, then end with the 7:00 pm folk show at Bagore Ki Haveli. The lakes and hills to the north need a second day.

Can I do the City Palace and the evening show on the same day?

Yes. City Palace Museum lists 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and the show is listed at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with tickets from 5:30 pm. The show poster dates from April 2023, so confirm the time at the haveli.

What should I cut if I only have a day and a half?

Cut Moti Magri, Shilpgram and Sajjangarh first, in that order. Keep the City Palace and the evening show, and keep Saheliyon Ki Bari with Fateh Sagar Lake as the half day.

Is staying in Sukher a problem for sightseeing?

It adds driving, not a barrier. The hotel is about 9.2 km and 25 min by road from the City Palace. Saheliyon Ki Bari and Fateh Sagar Lake are closer to Sukher than the old city is.

Is Kumbhalgarh a day trip from Udaipur?

Yes, but a long one. It is about 89 km and 2 hr 15 min each way from the hotel by road, so plan a full day.
