What a deluxe room in Udaipur should include, what to check before you book, and a photo walk-through of the Deluxe Room at Hotel Rudra Kripa in Sukher.

In Udaipur, the word you’ll see on room after room is “deluxe.” It sounds like a promise, but it isn’t a standard – every hotel uses it in its own way. So rather than ask you to take the name on trust, this guide gives you a checklist for any deluxe room in Udaipur, then holds ours up against it.

Hotel Rudra Kripa is a heritage-inspired boutique hotel in [Sukher](https://hotelrudrakripa.com/hotels-in-sukher-udaipur), on Udaipur’s quieter side, north of the old city and well connected by road. We have two room categories, Deluxe and Super Deluxe. [The Deluxe Room at Hotel Rudra Kripa](https://hotelrudrakripa.com/rooms/deluxe-room) – queen-size bed, air conditioning, breakfast included – is the one this guide looks at in detail, with a note on when the Super Deluxe suits you better.

## What “deluxe” means in Udaipur hotels

There’s no official definition of a deluxe room. Hotels name their own room types, so “deluxe” might be one hotel’s entry-level room and, at the hotel next door, the step above “standard” and “superior.” The name tells you where a room sits in that hotel’s own list – not how big it is, what’s included or what it looks out on.

In India the word does appear in the Ministry of Tourism’s hotel classification, as “Five Star Deluxe,” but that grades a whole hotel, not a room. Booking sites add a layer of their own: the same room can be listed as a “Deluxe Double,” a “Deluxe Queen” or a “Deluxe Room with Breakfast,” and two rate plans for one room can include different things.

In Udaipur you’ll find the label on everything from a simple air-conditioned room in a family-run guesthouse to a lake-facing room in a palace hotel. So compare the list, not the name – and look at photos of the room type you’re actually booking, since a hotel’s gallery often leads with its best room. The checklist below works for any hotel, ours included.

## What to check in a deluxe room in Udaipur

Seven things are worth checking before you book. Each takes a minute, and together they tell you far more than a room name.

### Bed size

Ask whether the bed is a queen, a king or two twins. A queen-size bed suits most couples. If you’re traveling with a child, ask whether an extra bed can be added when you book – not at check-in, when the hotel may be full.

### Air conditioning

Udaipur is hot from April to June and humid through the monsoon, so make sure the room has its own air conditioner, not just a ceiling fan or an air cooler – many budget hotels sell “non-AC” rooms for less. If you’re after an affordable AC room in Udaipur, look for AC in the room name or the amenity list, and ask if it isn’t clear.

### The bathroom

Is the bathroom private (attached) or shared? Are towels and toiletries supplied? If a bathtub matters to you, ask before you book rather than assume one from the room name.

### Wi-Fi and TV

Check that Wi-Fi is free and reaches the rooms, not only the lobby, and whether the TV has the channels you want. If you’ll be working, ask whether there’s a desk.

### Breakfast

Is breakfast included in the rate, or charged per person each morning? Over a few days the difference adds up, and booking sites often sell the same room both ways.

### Check-in times

Many overnight trains and buses reach Udaipur early in the morning, hours before a typical afternoon check-in. Ask what time check-in starts and whether early check-in can be arranged, so you’re not waiting in the lobby after a night of travel.

### Location and the drive

A room near Lake Pichola puts you among the old city’s lanes, where streets are narrow and parking is scarce. A hotel further out is usually quieter and easier to park at, but you’ll drive in for the sights. Check the road distance to the places you most want to see, whether parking is free, and how you’ll get around.

## Inside our Deluxe Room

Here’s how our Deluxe Room measures up against that checklist, with photos of the room itself.

### A queen-size bed

The Deluxe Room has a queen-size bed, made up in white linen with a mustard-gold runner and cushions. A dark-wood wardrobe gives you space to unpack properly, even on a short stay, and the curtained window can be drawn for an afternoon rest when the sun is high.

### Air conditioning, TV and Wi-Fi

Every room has air conditioning, which you’ll be glad of from April to June. There’s a flat-screen LED TV on the wall, a telephone to reach reception, and free bottled water. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, your room included.

### A private bathroom

The bathroom is private, with towels and toiletries supplied. Ours has wood-effect wall tiles and a floral feature wall, which make it feel warmer than plain white tile. If you need a bathtub, ask the reservations team when you enquire.

### A small desk

There’s a small console desk with a chair – enough for a laptop, a phone on charge and tomorrow’s plans. With the Wi-Fi free, it works for catching up on email between sightseeing trips.

### Heritage touches

The design draws on Udaipur’s heritage without crowding the room: dark-wood furniture, gold accents and marble floors that stay cool underfoot in the hot months. Around the hotel, the same spirit shows in cusped arches, hand-painted vermilion borders, chandeliers and the Ganesha that greets you in the lobby.

### Breakfast included

Breakfast is included with every Deluxe Room stay, with a variety of local and international dishes. It’s one less meal to plan or pay for, and a good start before an early visit to the City Palace.

## Deluxe or Super Deluxe?

Both rooms have the essentials. The differences are space, the bed, breakfast and a couple of extras.

**Our two rooms side by side**

| | Deluxe Room | Super Deluxe Room |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Bed | Queen-size | Four-poster |
| Space | Room for the bed, a wardrobe and a small desk | More space to spread out |
| Breakfast | Included | Ask when you enquire |
| In the room | Air conditioning, a private bathroom, free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen LED TV, free bottled water, towels, toiletries and a telephone | Everything in the Deluxe, plus a tea/coffee maker and satellite channels |

Choose the Deluxe if you’ll be out sightseeing most of the day and want breakfast taken care of. Choose the [Super Deluxe Room](https://hotelrudrakripa.com/rooms/super-deluxe-room) for a longer stay or a special occasion, or whenever you’d like more space and a tea/coffee maker of your own. For a family, tell us who’s coming when you enquire, and the reservations team will tell you which room works best.

## Beyond the room

Whichever room you book, here’s what the rest of the hotel adds.

### 24/7 reception

Reception is open around the clock, so you can check in after a late train or leave before dawn for an early flight. The team can help with travel arrangements, restaurant reservations or recommendations for the day, and early check-in or late check-out can be arranged on request, subject to availability.

### Room service

After a long day in the old city, sometimes the best dinner is the one you eat in your room. Room service is available – ask at reception what’s on the menu.

### The rooftop pool and cafe

Up on the roof, the [rooftop swimming pool](https://hotelrudrakripa.com/swimming-pool) faces the Aravalli hills, with loungers, towels and potted palms around it – the place to cool off after a morning of sightseeing. Ask whether a massage can be booked by the pool during your stay.

For a drink or a meal with a view, the [Roof Top Cafe](https://hotelrudrakripa.com/rooftop-cafe) looks out over Udaipur and the Aravalli hills, serving snacks, local delicacies and international flavors from breakfast at sunrise to dinner under the stars.

## Getting around from Sukher

Udaipur’s palaces and lakes are in and around the old city. Sukher is north of it, so the sights are a drive rather than a walk: the City Palace is about 9.2 km – around 25 min by car, and Fateh Sagar Lake about 7.9 km. A taxi or an auto-rickshaw gets you there; if you drive, parking at the hotel is free and secure. In return, each evening you come back to Udaipur’s quieter side.
